The city of Brandýs nad Labem is located in the Czech Republic and has 16,000 inhabitants.

Most of the people distanced themselves from any form of faith at a time of totalitarianism when it was forbidden. The population has a good and open heart despite harsh living conditions and pervasive poverty. Indeed, the lack of jobs leads to a difficult situation where many people have to go to Prague, the capital city, to be able to feed their family. Therefore, social insecurity is very rife.

Us, Daughters of Charity, provide help to the population by giving soup or clean clothes, as well as attention to homeless people or people in need.

We also help them as much as possible in their individual needs such as administrative procedures, healthcare costs and many other aspects. A lot of people live in the streets which lead to the idea of converting containers into homes for some of them.

This first step was completed with the help of benefactors and the town. Today, 9 people are housed in this living space.

The second step was to set up mobile toilets on this area close to the small houses, firstly with the precious help provided by your donations on the Rosalie Projects platform.

Aim of the project:

Today we call on your generosity to bring electricity to the small houses of these people.

Indeed, candles are the only way for them to light their houses and they do not have neither a refrigerator nor a heating system. Therefore, that would greatly improve their everyday comfort and ease their daily life.

Together, they have created a place where there is room for everyone, taking care of one another and rediscovering what they can achieve by being at the service of all. Everyday they look after the sheep that have been left in their care, tinker around and maintain their home in good order: it is the condition given by the Daughters of Charity for them to be able to stay.

That way, they recover the joy of living by feeling useful.

Providing electricity access in each small house would allow these persons to improve their poor living conditions and would be much safer than using candles for lighting.

But how?

The men living there are already strongly involved in the project and will be in charge of part of the work such as preparing the land for the cable installation. Several volunteers from the parish offered to help them out and we will be a link and a support throughout the improvements. Finally, an engineer (on site since the drafting of the budget) will coordinate all the project to complete it in the best possible way.

From the beginning, we have really wanted to help those people regain their dignity thereby proving them they are capable of living better by doing all they can to stand on their own.

Thank you very much to all of you who will help improve those people living conditions!

Dear Sister Veronika:

Congratulations on this meaningful work with the homeless in the Czeck Republic.
My name is Natalie Monteza and I coordinate the Vincentian Family's global "13 Houses" Campaign (Famvin Homeless Alliance https://vfhomelessalliance.org/c13h/) which is inspired by the work of St. Vincent 400 years ago.

Our purpose is to celebrate the charism through projects with homeless people carried out by all Vincentian branches in all 160 countries where branches are present. The Campaign was born in November 2018 and the goal is to transform the lives of 10,000 homeless people in 5 years.
We are in the final stretch, and very close to that goal, as we have reached 9350 people in 63 countries.

But the Czeck Republic still doesn't have a "13 Houses" project. Reading about your project , I would like to invite you to be part of the Campaign since your project is addressing street homelessness.
I would be grateful if you could contact me by e-mail at fha.campaign@famvin.org.

I take this opportunity to wish you a happy Vincentian month and a beautiful Feast Day on September 27th.
Fraternal greetings,
Natalie Monteza
