In the Dominican Republic, Puerto Plata is a coastal city nicknamed “the bride of the Atlantic.” Discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493, it is renowned for its Victorian architecture, rich cultural heritage, and magnificent beaches. Behind this tourist image, however, lies a difficult social reality: a large part of the local population lives in poverty, especially in the surrounding rural areas.
The local economy relies mainly on agriculture, industry, and tourism, but these sectors are not enough to guarantee a decent standard of living for the entire population. Many families lack the financial resources to feed themselves properly or access basic medical care.
In 1973, the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul agreed to manage a shelter handed over by the Dominican government, which recognized their experience in serving the most disadvantaged. Today, the community, led by Sr. Juana Emilia Ureña Martinez, has two main missions:
- a home for the elderly, designed to provide a place to live and daily support for isolated seniors;
- a home for young girls, where nuns provide educational support in conjunction with local schools and families.
The project aims to:
- compensate for the lack of access to medical care and medication
- reduce malnutrition among children and the elderly
- slow down the loss of independence and deterioration of mental health linked to poverty and dependency
- combat school dropout due to malnutrition and lack of resources.

To address this, the Daughters of Charity asked Projets Rosalie to help them deliver medication to people's homes, monitor chronically ill patients, and distribute food and hygiene products.
100 people, including children and elderly individuals identified through home visits conducted by sisters and volunteers from the Vincentian Family, will benefit from this project.

Thank you for your support alongside them.
With them, Thanks to you
If the project is funded beyond its target, the surplus donations received will be allocated to a similar project.
