Le PAS: a home for people made vulnerable by illness and loneliness

As part of the diocesan health ministry in Lyon, the Le PAS association is attached to the chaplaincies of the Le Vinatier, St Jean de Dieu and Saint Cyr Au Mont d'or psychiatric hospitals.

The association is open to all those who are or have been under psychiatric care.

Welcomers and guests meet in a spirit of tolerance and respect, whatever their beliefs and aspirations.

In a warm and respectful environment, everyone is invited to take part in the life of the group, to help each other through listening and solidarity, to spend time in prayer, to express their questions, sufferings, joys and sorrows, and to share meals, parties, birthdays and activities.

"PAS is a place where people in recovery are welcomed, whether or not they have attended one of the three chaplaincies. It's a place where we walk together step by step, a place where it's good to be, a place where we live together and build together." Sr Inés

The trust and freedom cultivated within the association enable participants to simply express their questions, doubts and research.

"During these personal exchanges, they can express their anxiety about the future, the difficulties associated with mental illness and many other personal ailments. The words they share give them back a certain confidence and open them up to hope, making small steps possible." Sr Inés

Project: helping 13 people regain their strength during a 3-day retreat

The needs of our guests sometimes require special attention.

Sr Inès presents us with this retreat project where 13 people hope to spend 3 days in Mazille from July 24 to 26, at L'hôtellerie du Carmel.

"Last year, guests and carers organized and took part in an outing to Carmel de Mazille. They spent the day there and had the opportunity to experience times of prayer, meet a Carmelite nun and take part in a time of work (transporting firewood) with sisters from the community." Sr Inés

This retreat will be an opportunity for spiritual support, a wonderful experience of fraternal sharing and, for some, a real overcoming of their fears.

"The project I'm presenting below on their behalf is a small one, but it's close to their hearts and has been in the pipeline for several years. It's not very costly, and everyone will participate, but we just need a "little help" to finance our spiritual retreat for the year". Sr Inés

With them, thanks to you!

Many thanks for your support

My name is Inès Barnabé, a Daughter of Charity since 1984 in Belgium, then in Peru from 2003 to the end of 2012. In the community I joined in Lyon in 2012, we are 5 Sisters with distinct missions. I myself had the joy of joining a hospital chaplaincy team in psychiatry for 5 years and in 2017, the Diocese, with the agreement of my Community and the Province sent me on mission as head of its hospital chaplaincies. It's in this context that I'm led to frequent the PAS chaplaincy to accompany it in the recruitment and training of its members, "accueillants", participate in its assemblies and support the projects always developed on the initiative of the "accueillés", people in recovery.
