The Daughters of Charity alongside those excluded from the "Rwandan miracle"

Although Rwanda, the ‘Land of a Thousand Hills’, has succeeded in becoming one of the most dynamic countries on the African continent 30 years after the trauma of the genocide, inequalities affect a large proportion of the population who are excluded from the ‘Rwandan miracle’.

In Kigali, the country's capital, the Daughters of Charity work with poor families who have come from the countryside in search of work.

Living on the outskirts of the city, they suffer from the strong property and demographic pressure caused by the Rwandan rural exodus.

"Here, people live on occasional jobs. They no longer have any land to cultivate and live on very meagre resources with no plans for the future." Sr Théodosie

Project: Motorbikes taxis to help 2 fathers support their families

The reintegration of 2 unemployed fathers is at the heart of the "A taxi to Kigali" project.

Thanks to the purchase of 2 motorbike taxis, these fathers, who have saved up to obtain their licence, will be able to transport people to earn a living, support their families and ensure their children's schooling.

They will have 3 years to repay the capital loaned and pass it on to other families.

"We will be working with these 2 fathers to show them the need to save through micro-finance so that this capital can benefit other people who want to reintegrate in the future." Sr Théodosie

In all, 9 people, including 5 children, will see their living conditions improve.

"We will work with these 2 fathers to show them the need to save through micro-confidence so that this capital can benefit other people in the future who want to reintegrate." Sr Théodosie

With Them, Thanks to You

L'équipe des Projets Rosalie
Sr Théodosie NYIRAHAGENIMANA

I am a Daughter of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul since 1998. I have worked in the service of the poor in several missions: the Rwisabi community in Burundi from 2000 to 2004, then in the Divine Providence community in Rwanda from 2005 to 2008 and finally in the provincial house of Kicukiro, one of the three districts in the province of Kigali. At the moment, I'm serving at Saint Vincent de Paul primary school, while at the same time being involved in the Province's projects committee.
