The Berceau (Cradle) of Saint Vincent de Paul, Saint Vincent's birthplace, 5 km from Dax in the Landes region, attracts up to 24,000 visitors and pilgrims a year. In order to be able to welcome groups more easily, the project « Nourished from the Cradle » was to create a ‘family kitchen’.
Thanks to you, we have been able to carry out all the work that was essential prior to equipping the kitchen: safety and compliance with standards, electricity and lighting, and painting to refresh the rooms and toilets.
"At Le Berceau, we were asked by a Sister Daughter of Charity to host camps for children from disadvantaged neighbourhoods for the summer of 2024. For budgetary reasons, we were asked to provide accommodation only, as the catering could be done simply by the staff running the camps. But we had to provide them with a catering room and a fully-equipped kitchen where meals could be prepared and served..." Sr Claire
2 stays of 2 weeks enabled a total of 90 children to enjoy a rejuvenating holiday. The carers were able to combine academic support, educational outings and relaxation, while getting to know each other and learning to live together.
"The calmness of the surrounding countryside, the large play areas, the proximity of the sea for swimming, and the sharing and exchanges with communities of sisters and people of all ages who listen to them have given the children a different experience of life and of the world around them". Sr Claire
A welcome at Le Berceau to be repeated in future years...
