In the Cameroonian capital, Yaoundé, the aim of the ‘There's mice in my room’ project was to help equip a computer room for pupils in the Médaille Miraculeuse bilingual school group. Without this room, they were deprived of the practical lessons on ‘New Information and Communication Technologies’ required by the official curricula.

The project began as soon as we received the funds raised thanks to you. The school already had a room that could be converted into a computer room. The computer tables for the pupils and the desk for the teacher were ordered straight away from the carpenter, given the lead times involved. The school has purchased wooden chairs. The electrician carried out the extensive electrical work required to connect the computers in August, when the children were on holiday. Finally, the computers and video projector were installed.

‘Parents also helped out, as the amount we received was insufficient to fully equip the hall. We are hoping for further help to complete the installations in the hall.‘ Sr Gladice

In the opinion of one parent, himself a secondary school teacher: ‘This computer room will make our children even more enthusiastic about their studies. They'll be more motivated to love their school, and this will also bring them up to date with the latest thinking on how to teach today. Because digitalization is a major focus in education today, this room will raise the bar and help our children move forward. Thank you for making it happen.‘

Previously, educational staff found it very difficult to run practical courses with just one computer and to follow the official educational objectives.

‘That worry is now a thing of the past! The purchase of several computers has changed the teaching situation, even if the room is not yet fully equipped. Pupils now enjoy practising. Before, they didn't have this opportunity, which makes them more enthusiastic now, because they learn better by practising!‘ Sr Gladice
