After the "Bâtir pour se reconstruire" and "Tout au bout de nos peines" projects, Sr Marthe, supported by Sr Anne and Sr Crescensia, is once again calling on the Rosalie Projects as part of their commitment to the homeless in Agen.
Through the association they have set up, "Entr'AidEToit", they meet families from various countries (Iran, Georgia, Kosovo, North Africa and the Sahara desert) who have been through difficult times.
"These families, often traumatized and suffering from loss of dignity, live in permanent insecurity.
The lack and high cost of housing very often jeopardizes the family equilibrium of these families and places the children in a situation of great vulnerability." Sr Marthe
The main difficulty for these foreigners, who live in an irregular situation, is not being able to work when they would like to become more independent and provide for themselves.
"We help them with administrative formalities, integrate into the city, find accommodation, and provide them with the furniture and household equipment they need to live decently." Sr Marthe
This year, Entr'aidEToit helped 33 people, including 7 families with 19 children.
Among them is Mr F, a journalist by profession, political refugee and father of 3, who had to leave his native Angola to bring his family to safety in France.
After living in a "squat" for a long time, this family has been housed in a house in Agen since 2018, and has been able to regain some security while waiting for the long process of regularization. The children attend school, and the father works as a volunteer for Restos du Cœur and Secours Populaire.
Following the death of her last relative, a landlady agreed to make this unoccupied home available to the family. An agreement and guidelines for good practice were signed between the owner, Mr F and the association, the latter undertaking to maintain the house in return for the owner's generosity and solidarity.
Outdated and poorly insulated, this house had to undergo emergency renovations in the bedrooms and bathroom.
This year, the dwelling requires further work to bring it up to standard before the onset of winter:
- supply and replacement of a boiler
- replacement of 2 windows in the bathroom and 2 doors giving access to the garden
- removal and installation of a new toilet bowl.
"The daylight can be seen between the wall of the house, the windows and the doors leading into the garden, resulting in high heat loss, while the age of the boiler and radiators is not conducive to savings. There are also leaks in the toilets, which need to be repaired." Sr Marthe

Having lived in Agen for many years, I have always been at the service of the sick in their homes, at the prison, or with children in the Catholic Action. Since my retirement, I have been involved in associations to accompany the sick at the end of their lives, to welcome the families of prisoners, and above all to be with the most precarious people, who are looking for housing in the hope of having a better life, i.e. one that is more stable and balanced. Today, as a community of three, we welcome and accompany these people in great precariousness within the association Entr'aidEToit.
